Between 15.04.2022 – 31.05.2022, the Environmental Protection Agency Vrancea will organize the first edition (2022) of the interschool competition, entitled: „From the life of saproxylic insects”.
Who can participate?
The contest is addressed to students from grades V-VIII from school units located in the communities of interest for the Putna-Vrancea Natural Park (the municipalities of Soveja, Vidra, Paulesti, Negrilesti, Tulnici and Nistoresti).
Purpose of the contest:
Communicating the benefits of the saproxylic insect species Rosalia alpina, Osmoderma eremita, Morimus funereus, Lucanus cervus, and Cerambyx cerdo, among the younger generation, increasing acceptance of saproxylic insects among the locals and awareness of the need for actions to conserve these species.
This contest is part of the E2 activity – Awareness activities for locals and local stakeholders intended to be implemented within the project „Conservation of saproxylic insects in the Carpathians – LIFE ROsalia”.
The project is implemented by the Vrancea Environmental Protection Agency between September 1, 2020 and May 31, 2025 and is co-financed by the European Union through the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) within the LIFE Nature and Biodiversity program.
The project aims to improve the conservation status of the Rosalia alpina by carrying out demonstrative actions to increase the favorability of forest habitats in the Carpathians.
What does the contest consist of?
Each student can participate in the contest with a single work made on paper, A4 format, made using any technique (pencil, crayon, watercolor, pastel, tempera, oil, etc.). Interested teaching staff are responsible for collecting the papers, checking compliance with the competition requirements, sending the papers and correspondence with the competition organizer.
What should my work include?
The creations must include drawings depicting one or more species of protected saproxylic insects found in the area of the Putna-Vrancea Natural Park: Rosalia alpina, Osmoderma eremita, Morimus funereus, Lucanus cervus and Cerambyx cerdo. Terms and conditions:
• The author’s name, full address, school and class, the name of the coordinating teacher and his/her contact details (telephone, e-mail) must be mentioned on the back of each work.
• The submission of works for participation in this contest automatically constitutes a declaration of acceptance of all the conditions present in the regulations and implicitly the consent of the participants that allows the LIFE ROSalia Project to publish the works in printed or electronic form and to use the respective images for promotional purposes, without payment any remuneration.
How should I submit the paper?
The works can be sent by post or brought in person to the headquarters of the Vrancea Environmental Protection Agency, at Dinicu Golescu str. no. 2, Focsani 620100 On the envelope it must be written: „LIFE ROSalia drawing competition”.
IMPORTANT!
The works made by the students of the same educational unit (or classes) can be sent in a single envelope.
DO NOT FORGET Each work must contain the author’s name, full address, school and class, the name of the coordinating teacher and his/her contact details (phone, e-mail).
What is the entry deadline?
The works must be received by the organizer by 20.05.2022. Works received after the mentioned deadline will not be considered! Works that do not meet all the conditions mentioned above, as well as the deadline for their submission, cannot participate in the competition!
Judging and awarding of prizes
The works will be judged based on the originality, creativity, quality and relevance of the subject by a jury that will include representatives of the partners in the project (Vrancea Environmental Protection Agency, R.N.P. Romsilva, Putna-Vrancea Natural Park Administration, Association for the Conservation of Biological Diversity and the University from Bucharest). The result of the judging will be published on the website of the LIFE ROSalia Project www.liferosalia.ro by 27.05.2022.
Between May 27 and May 31, 2022, an exhibition will be held in the Putna-Vrancea Natural Park. The following prizes will be awarded:
• the special prize consisting of a trip to the Putna-Vrancea Natural Park for the class of the winner of the first prize and accompanying teaching staff. The one-day trip will be organized between 01-08 June 2022.
