Background Environmental Protection Agency Vrancea (EPA VN) is an environmental public authority representing the Ministry of Environment, Water and Forests at the local level (Vrancea County) having the main role of implementing national environmental policies, issuing environmental permits, regulations of natural resources use and forestry activities as well as establishing environmental targets for Vrancea County and enforcing the achievement of these objectives (including for biodiversity).
Over the time, EPA VN was a successful coordinator of several large projects LIFE02 NAT/RO/8576, LIFE05NAT RO/000170, LIFE08NAT RO/000500, and LIFE13 NAT/RO/00205.
Monitoring saproxylic insects and their habitats
Currently, EPA VN runs the project Conservation of saproxylic beetles in the Carpathians LIFE19NAT/RO/000023 where we are looking for 4 volunteers to work and gain experience helping us at the same time to collect data on saproxylic insects within Putna Vrancea Natural Park.
We will provide to the selected applicants accommodation at Lepsa field station and food, they will also get professional experience in monitoring saproxylic insects and their habitats, collecting and processing data.
Accomodation facilities: shared dorms, kitcken, shower with heated water, electricity from solar panels.
Responsibilities
The activities envisaged are specific to field work, involving monitoring of saproxylic beetles (live traps, active searching). and their habitats, filling in the monitoring sheets etc. The activities are daily basis.
Volunteer Dates 2024
Volunteer positions are available between 17th June -11th August 2024 as seen below (minimum 14 days per person).
• Block I: 17th June – 14th July 2024
• Block II: 15th July – 11th august 2024
Volunteer Qualities
• biology, geography, ecology, environmental studies, forestry, agronomics freshman or graduate student.
