LIFE ROsalia at the Final Conference of LIFE SPAN

30.06.2026

On 23–24 June 2026, the University of Bucharest team participated in the final conference of the LIFE SPAN project – Saproxylic Biodiversity in Forests: How to Integrate Conservation and Management – held at Pian del Cansiglio (Belluno, Italy).

During the session dedicated to innovative methodologies, our colleagues delivered the presentation „Insect Tracking Technologies – LIFE ROsalia”, where they presented the results of a VHF telemetry study on the movements of Osmoderma barnabita in the Eastern Carpathians and demonstrated the applicability of this technology for monitoring saproxylic insects.

In addition to presenting the LIFE ROsalia project, the conference provided an excellent opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience with the teams of other LIFE projects, including LIFE SPAN and LIFE Osmo Baltic. We also visited the Saproxylic Habitat Sites (SHS) and the habitats created for saproxylic insects in the Foresta Regionale del Cansiglio Orientale and learned more about tools and best practices used in sustainable forest management, such as the marteloscope.

We also walked the LIFE SPAN demonstration trail along the Slipari path, where we observed the conservation measures implemented as part of the project.

Exchanging knowledge and experience with the teams of the other LIFE projects was one of the highlights of the conference. The discussions and exchange of ideas laid the foundations for future collaborations in forest conservation and the protection of saproxylic biodiversity.

Our sincere thanks to the organizers for their warm hospitality and for hosting an excellent event that provided a valuable platform for dialogue, the exchange of best practices, and strengthening collaboration among LIFE project teams.
